Spam Shield — free Chrome extension

Your GA4 reports, with the spam already filtered out

Install once and every standard report opens with a “No spam” comparison applied — fake referrals, bot countries, data-center traffic, and headless browsers excluded automatically. It follows you from report to report, so you never think about it again.

Install the beta in two minutes

Until the Chrome Web Store listing is live, Spam Shield loads as an unpacked extension — same code, just a manual install.

1 · Download & unzip

Grab the zip and unzip it somewhere it can stay — Chrome loads the extension from that folder.

2 · Enable Developer mode

Open chrome://extensions and flip on Developer mode (top right).

3 · Load unpacked

Click Load unpacked and select the unzipped ga4-helper-spam-shield folder.

4 · Open GA4

That’s it — every standard report now opens with the "No spam" comparison applied.

Four signals, one clean report

Spam isn't just fake referrals anymore. Spam Shield excludes traffic on up to four dimensions at once — each list editable per property.

Fake referral sources

A curated, always-current list of ghost-referral campaigns (news.grets.store and friends) matched by domain family, so new subdomains are caught the day they appear.

Bot geography

Countries with overwhelming bot traffic and the data-center cities bots geolocate to — Ashburn, Boardman, Council Bluffs, The Dalles.

Headless browsers

Screen resolutions real visitors never have, like 1600x1600 — the signature of automated traffic.

Your own list

Spotted something we missed? Add domains, countries, cities, or resolutions in the popup — saved per GA4 property.

Set it once, forget it exists

1 · Add to Chrome

Download the beta above (one-click from the Web Store soon). No account, no sign-in, no permissions beyond analytics.google.com.

2 · Open any GA4 report

The “No spam (GA4 Helper)” comparison appears next to All Users, already active, and stays with you as you navigate.

3 · It keeps itself current

The signature list syncs daily, so new spam waves are filtered before you ever see them. Spot something anyway? Add it in the popup.

What Spam Shield doesn't do

It filters what your reports show — it can't stop spam from being collected, and it can't tell you when a brand-new spam wave is inflating the numbers your boss is looking at. Want to know how much spam is in your data right now? The free GA4 Spam Detector measures it and names the offenders.

For that, GA4 Alerts watches your actual data: weekly anomaly digests group suspicious traffic into labeled spam clusters — including the engagement-time patterns a comparison can't filter — so you know a spike is fake before you celebrate it. One property free forever.

Questions, answered

Does the extension access my Analytics data?+

No. There is no sign-in, no OAuth, and no API access. The extension only rewrites the report URL in your own tab — the same mechanism GA4 uses for shareable comparison links. The only network request it ever makes is fetching the public spam-signature list from ga4helper.com.

Does it change anything in my GA4 property?+

No. It applies a comparison, which only affects what your reports display — nothing is deleted, no settings are touched, and colleagues without the extension see GA4 exactly as before. Remove the comparison (or the extension) and everything is back to stock.

Why a comparison instead of a real GA4 filter?+

Property-level filters need Editor access, take effect only from the day you create them, and silently drop data forever if you get them wrong. A comparison is instant, reversible, works with Viewer access, and applies to your full history.

Which reports does it work on?+

All GA4 standard reports. Explorations are a GA4 limitation — comparisons don’t exist there, so you’d use segments instead.

How does the spam list stay current?+

The extension refreshes its signature list from ga4helper.com daily, so when a new spam wave hits, every installed extension starts filtering it without an update from the Chrome Web Store.

Can it filter by engagement time?+

Not via comparisons — GA4 comparisons filter on dimensions, and engagement time is a metric. If you want spam detection that looks at engagement patterns, that’s what the anomaly digests in GA4 Alerts do.

How do beta updates work?+

The spam-signature list updates itself daily regardless of how you installed. New extension features during the beta mean re-downloading the zip and loading it again; once the Chrome Web Store listing is live, updates become automatic. Your settings are stored in Chrome and survive reloads.

Stop re-explaining the same fake traffic every month

Every report you open, every report you share — spam already gone. Free, and your data never leaves Google.
